Representatives of the Catholic, Anglican and Uniting Churches will host two election forums in Queensland in the coming weeks to enable Christians to hear party representatives' policies and views on important social and environmental issues.
The Social Responsibilities Committee of the Anglican Diocese of Brisbane, The Catholic Justice and Peace Commission of the Archdiocese of Brisbane and the Moreton Rivers Presbytery of the Uniting Church in Australia will co-host the two forums, according to a media statement.
The first forum will focus on climate change, refugee policy, mental health and Indigenous affairs. It will be held on Wednesday, August 4 at the Broadwater Road Uniting Church, Mansfield while the second, focusing on taxation, poverty, housing and homelessness will be held on Monday, August 9 at St Paul's Uniting Church in Stafford.
Coalition, Labor, Greens and Family First candidates will be present to answer questions from the floor, the statement said.
Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Peter Arndt, Executive Officer of the Queensland Catholic Justice and Peace Commission, said that it was important for Christians to be active in the election process.
"We believe it is important that we try to promote the values of the Christian message in public life," Mr Arndt said.
"The three church organisations involved in these forums are committed to promoting human dignity, fairness and justice in the way society runs," he said.
